Brow Lift Surgery Techniques

Pittsburgh Brow Lift Techniques

The brow is one of the first areas of the face to show the tell-tale signs of aging. Fine lines, wrinkles, and deeper furrows in the forehead can make you look older than you are. They can even make you look perpetually serious or angry, which may be a source of considerable frustration if you are a generally happy and approachable person. Fortunately, at the practice of Pittsburgh plastic surgeon Dennis Hurwitz, brow lift surgery offers patients an opportunity to rejuvenate the forehead area and improve the appearance of their entire face.

There are several techniques that can be used to perform brow lift surgery; however, at our practice in Pittsburgh, brow lift is generally performed using the minimally invasive endoscopic technique. This technique allows us to produce exceptional results without leaving extensive scars or other signs of surgery. It also allows for a quicker, more comfortable healing process.

The Endoscopic Brow Lift

Endoscopic brow lift surgery is often ideal for patients with excess, sagging skin in the forehead area, as well as fine lines, furrows, and wrinkles. During the procedure, Dr. Hurwitz removes excess skin while tightening the remaining skin to give the brow a smoother, more youthful texture.

The primary difference between the endoscopic brow lift and its traditional counterpart is that the former requires fewer and smaller incisions than the latter. These tiny incisions are made in the upper brow, behind the hairline where they will be readily concealed. In the traditional brow lift procedure, work is done through a large incision that extends from ear to ear. Because this technique makes the procedure less invasive than the traditional version, certain patients may not even require general anesthesia.

Through the tiny incisions made in the upper brow, Dr. Hurwitz inserts a small, thin instrument with a camera attached; this is called an endoscope. The camera transmits crystal-clear real-time images to a screen so that Dr. Hurwitz can monitor his progress as he removes and reshapes the muscle and fat tissues underlying the forehead skin. Once the tissues have been modified appropriately, excess skin is trimmed, and the remaining skin is pulled taut. The skin will be sutured into place and left to heal. After a period of healing, the result will be a far smoother, more youthful looking brow.

At our plastic surgery practice in Pittsburgh, facelift surgery is often combined with brow lift surgery as part of a comprehensive facial rejuvenation plan.

Benefits of the Endoscopic Brow Lift Technique

The endoscopic brow lift technique offers a number of significant advantages over other techniques, including:

  • A quicker recovery with less bleeding, bruising, and other uncomfortable side effects
  • Fewer, smaller, and more discreet scars
  • A minimally invasive nature that makes it ideal for patients only beginning to show signs of aging
