Refine Your Nose, Enhance Your Confidence
Your nose is one of your most defining facial features, and concerns about its size, shape, or contours can affect your confidence.
At our Pittsburgh practice, rhinoplasty offers a safe, effective way to refine the nose and achieve natural-looking results. Using 3-D image simulation to clearly communicate potential outcomes and align your goals with your treatment plan, we help you visualize your results before surgery. With advanced surgical expertise and a meticulous aesthetic approach, we strive to provide enhancements that help you feel confident in your appearance.
There are several different types of rhinoplasty performed to achieve a range of goals:
In the most commonly performed procedure, our surgeons will remove small amounts of bone and cartilage to achieve your desired appearance. Reduction rhinoplasty can address bumps on the bridge of the nose, elongated nasal tips, and flared nostrils.
Another very common procedure, augmentation rhinoplasty is accomplished by performing bone and tissue grafts to build up the nasal tip or bridge. Typically, we will harvest tissue from other parts of the nose, but can use tissue from your ears or ribs, or synthetic material, as well.
This procedure is performed to help patients who have experienced an injury to the nose achieve restored function and aesthetics.
We can perform specialized rhinoplasty surgeries for adolescents and adults suffering from breathing difficulties. We take special care during these rhinoplasty procedures to preserve the patient's unique features.

Nose reshaping surgery can address a wide range of cosmetic flaws and breathing issues. The best way to find out if you are a good candidate for rhinoplasty is to schedule a consultation with the Pittsburgh Center.
You may not be able to pinpoint what you dislike about your nose or your appearance in general, but a consultation can help you determine whether your nose needs to be adjusted or if another feature is affecting your satisfaction with appearance. It is highly recommended that you bring in images of individuals you find attractive or noses that you find flattering. These can be used during your consultation to identify the changes that can be made to achieve your desired outcome. How do I know if I'm a candidate?
Following a rhinoplasty, Pittsburgh patients can typically resume normal activities within one to two weeks, with full recovery usually occurring after about a month. During the pre-surgical evaluation, our plastic surgeons will answer any questions you may have and carefully explain what to expect during your rhinoplasty recovery.
Our staff will also provide you with a list of post-operative instructions to follow to assist you with your recovery. These are not simply suggestions, and they should be diligently followed to help you avoid complications. Your results can completely depend on how closely you follow these instructions.
Like many other facial cosmetic procedures, rhinoplasty is considered an outpatient surgery, so you will be able to return home the same day. Due to the nature of the procedure, you will need to have someone drive you to and from the surgery.
Immediately following a rhinoplasty Pittsburgh patients will likely feel groggy and nauseous. As the anesthesia wears off, you may also experience some soreness and pressure in your face. This is completely normal. Taking your medications as directed and resting with your head elevated can help alleviate any discomfort. We also recommend applying a soft ice pack to reduce swelling. Other side effects can include headaches, swelling, and nosebleeds.
“My surgeon did a fantastic job on my rhinoplasty. He listened to my concerns and the staff is very kind. His wife did my surgical coordination and she was very good about easing me through my concerns about having surgery since I had never been under before. It was worth the 2 hour travel to have quality care.” ADRIENNE M.
The initial swelling from your nose reshaping surgery will take a few weeks to subside. Over the next year, you may notice subtle changes in the appearance of your nose. This refinement process will eventually reveal your permanent results. The changes made during rhinoplasty are relatively permanent. You may experience some changes to your facial features as you age. However, a healthy lifestyle and consistent sun protection can help extend the results of your procedure.
Patients can typically resume normal activities within one to two weeks, with a full recovery occurring after one month.
During your first week, extensive bruising is normal. Keeping your head elevated when resting can help reduce these effects. It is imperative that you do not blow or try to breathe through your nose as it could disrupt the incisions. Your nose will likely be packed with gauze or other materials to hold the surgical site in place and to reduce any bleeding. Your Pittsburgh rhinoplasty surgeon will remove any non-dissolvable sutures, splints, and nasal packing approximately seven to 10 days after surgery.
Although light walking is encouraged to promote healthy blood flow, all strenuous activity should be avoided for at least two weeks. This includes heavy lifting, bending over, or any activity that would cause overexertion. You will also need to avoid wearing eyeglasses of any kind as the added pressure could disrupt the treatment area.
As the swelling and bruising subsides, most patients feel comfortable returning to work and normal activities by this time. Some physical activity can also be resumed. However, any activity that could result in injury to the face, such as contact sports, should be avoided for at least eight weeks.
It is not uncommon to experience some numbness and tingling around your nose throughout your recovery. This will continue to subside as your nose heals. Although you may notice a vast improvement in the appearance of your nose, it could take up a to a year or more to enjoy the final results.
Explore Your Options
Before recommending nose reshaping surgery, our Pittsburgh surgeons will meet with you to discuss your goals and review all available options. While rhinoplasty is often the best choice for patients seeking significant changes to the size or shape of their nose, we also offer non-surgical alternatives. Liquid rhinoplasty can use dermal fillers to enhance the contour of your nose by addressing concerns such as a crooked tip, a flattened bridge, or areas affected by injury. However, it’s important to understand that fillers cannot reduce the overall size of your nose or improve breathing issues, and the results are temporary, requiring periodic maintenance treatments.
